YouTube Adds Made with AI Labels for Generated Songs

YouTube will tag songs that use generative AI for composition or vocals with a Made with AI label, echoing its video disclosure rules.

YouTube is rolling out a new label for AI-made music.

Starting today, the platform will attach a 'Made with AI' tag to songs that were 'altered or fully generated' using artificial intelligence, YouTube said. The label targets tracks built with generative tools, including AI-generated compositions and vocals, not every song that merely used an AI plugin somewhere in production. YouTube is asking music partners to disclose AI use when uploading, and warns that if they don't, it may apply the label anyway based on 'other signals.' The rollout follows a similar labeling system YouTube already uses for AI-generated video.

Labels like this only work if creators actually use them, and YouTube's own admission that it will guess from 'other signals' suggests plenty won't. That puts the company in the same position as every platform policing AI content: writing rules that assume good faith compliance while building a backup plan for when that assumption fails.

Call it progress, but a disclosure box is not a detector - ask any platform that has tried to spot AI text.
