The Cloudflare data shows a sharp drop in automated traffic tied to those outages. Social media users quickly assumed the chart proves the strikes crippled Russian troll farms, the bot networks blamed for spreading disinformation and conspiracy theories online. There is no evidence in the reporting that the traffic drop is connected to those operations at all.\n\nThe mix-up matters because it shows how easily a technical chart gets reinterpreted as a geopolitical win once it hits social media. Troll farm infrastructure is typically spread across many providers and countries specifically so one outage can't take it down, which cuts against the viral narrative.\n\nA server outage is not a counter-disinformation strategy, however satisfying that chart looks on your timeline.","[\"yandex\",\"russia\",\"bot-traffic\",\"disinformation\"]","2026-10-12T15:43:07.000Z","2026-10-12T16:50:23.391Z","2026-10-12T16:50:29.028Z","published",null,[24],{"id":25,"reviewer":26,"round":27,"reason":28,"status":29},"editor-r1","editor",1,"The headline flatly states the outage 'Cut Bot Traffic, Not Russian Troll Farms' as settled fact, but the body only argues the troll-farm reading is 'probably the wrong one' — rewrite the headline\u002Fdek to match that hedged certainty instead of overclaiming a conclusion the reporting doesn't confirm.","resolved","security",[32,33,34,35],"yandex","russia","bot-traffic","disinformation",[37],{"name":38,"url":39},"The Verge","https:\u002F\u002Fwww.theverge.com\u002Ftech\u002F1009594\u002Frussian-bots-yandex-outage-drone-strikes-debunk",0,{"sections":42},[43,48,52,57,62,67,72,77,82,87,92,97,102,107],{"name":44,"slug":45,"count":46,"latest_published_at":47},"AI","ai",6973,"2026-10-12T20:13:28.000Z",{"name":49,"slug":30,"count":50,"latest_published_at":51},"Security",959,"2026-10-12T16:15:20.000Z",{"name":53,"slug":54,"count":55,"latest_published_at":56},"Policy","policy",500,"2026-10-12T18:34:57.000Z",{"name":58,"slug":59,"count":60,"latest_published_at":61},"Deals","deals",492,"2026-10-12T14:55:53.000Z",{"name":63,"slug":64,"count":65,"latest_published_at":66},"Hardware","hardware",242,"2026-10-12T19:48:14.000Z",{"name":68,"slug":69,"count":70,"latest_published_at":71},"Science","science",196,"2026-10-11T15:34:40.000Z",{"name":73,"slug":74,"count":75,"latest_published_at":76},"Consumer Tech","consumer-tech",192,"2026-10-12T14:07:13.000Z",{"name":78,"slug":79,"count":80,"latest_published_at":81},"Startups","startups",122,"2026-10-12T17:19:14.000Z",{"name":83,"slug":84,"count":85,"latest_published_at":86},"Software","software",116,"2026-10-12T19:00:00.000Z",{"name":88,"slug":89,"count":90,"latest_published_at":91},"Dev Tools","dev-tools",112,"2026-10-12T18:29:04.000Z",{"name":93,"slug":94,"count":95,"latest_published_at":96},"General","general",71,"2026-10-12T16:10:40.000Z",{"name":98,"slug":99,"count":100,"latest_published_at":101},"Gaming","gaming",62,"2026-10-12T19:05:44.000Z",{"name":103,"slug":104,"count":105,"latest_published_at":106},"Reviews","reviews",35,"2026-10-12T14:00:00.000Z",{"name":108,"slug":109,"count":110,"latest_published_at":111},"How-To","how-to",8,"2026-10-05T09:00:00.000Z"]
