Two of the smallest e-readers on the market just got cheaper for Prime Day.
Xteink's X3 and X4 Classic, both pocket-sized e-ink readers with roughly four-inch screens, are discounted for Amazon's October Prime Day event running October 6-7. The X4 Classic drops from $89 to $69.99, a 21% cut, while the X3 falls from $69 to $58.65, about 15% off. Both are follow-ups to last year's original X4, a bare-bones but cheap device that built a surprisingly devoted fan base on Reddit, including a crowdsourced alternate operating system. The newer models add real conveniences, like bigger batteries, repositioned buttons, and a clock, but they swap USB-C for magnetic pogo-pin charging and only read DRM-free e-books, so an existing Kindle library won't transfer.
The appeal isn't features, it's size: these are credit-card-sized devices built to vanish into a pocket, a niche Amazon's own Kindle lineup doesn't really serve. Xteink's pace, from the original X4 to the X3, X4 Pro, and now X4 Classic within about a year, shows a small startup iterating on community feedback faster than most incumbents bother to.
Just don't expect it to replace your Kindle: no DRM support means your existing e-book collection stays exactly where it is.
