Xiaomi says it just built the best open-weight AI model out there, but it isn't showing the receipts.
The phone and EV maker released MiMo-V2.6 on Tuesday in two versions, Pro and Flash, both open-weight under an MIT license with weights posted to Hugging Face. Xiaomi opened the announcement with the line "frontier intelligence, all the modalities, built in public." The benchmark firm Artificial Analysis scored MiMo-V2.6-Pro at 46 on its Intelligence Index, the number Xiaomi is citing as proof of its standing.
Xiaomi built its business on phones and electric cars, not foundation models, so an MIT-licensed release with real, downloadable weights is a genuine contribution to the open-weight field. Developers can run and fine-tune these models themselves instead of renting access through an API.
A score of 46 means little without comparable numbers for open-weight rivals like DeepSeek or Meta's Llama models, and none were published alongside it. Call the top-spot claim unproven until someone runs that comparison.
