The change starts in mid-November, and the items should be gone by the end of the year. They were tied to OneDrive, so anyone not using Microsoft's cloud storage never saw them, and the same functions remain reachable through the \"Ask Copilot\" icon in that menu. It is a tidy-up, not a retreat.\n\nThe louder story started on X. Diego Baca, VP of Design for Windows, replied to a user asking for more consistent Windows design with AI's help. \"AI has already helped our design team accelerate significantly,\" he wrote. \"We're even seeing designers contribute directly to code fixes that improve craft, consistency, and quality.\" He also said he was not the best person to speak to the engineering side.\n\nReddit responded with the now-familiar charges. One upvoted post said the codebase is being \"vibecoded\" (written by AI with little human scrutiny) and blamed it for patches that brick devices. Nothing in Baca's comment supports that leap. He described designers contributing fixes, not code skipping review, and he did not say how those fixes are checked.\n\nThe two items sit awkwardly together. Microsoft is trimming AI features users can see while saying plainly that it uses AI behind the scenes. The first move costs it little. The second invites a trust question that a menu cleanup cannot answer.\n\nMy read: the anger is really about reliability. Bad updates and weak quality assurance (the testing meant to catch bugs before release) would be a problem whether a human or a model wrote the faulty line, and a design team making interface fixes is an easy target for frustration it did not cause. Microsoft has not said how it reviews AI-assisted contributions, and that gap is what the critics are filling.","[\"windows-11\",\"microsoft\",\"copilot\",\"ai\"]","2026-10-21T14:53:54.000Z","2026-10-21T16:40:30.521Z","2026-10-21T16:40:32.946Z","published",null,[],"software",[26,27,28,29],"windows-11","microsoft","copilot","ai",[31],{"name":32,"url":33},"TechRadar","https:\u002F\u002Fwww.techradar.com\u002Fcomputing\u002Fwindows\u002Fwindows-11-cuts-back-some-ai-features-but-thats-overshadowed-by-a-microsoft-exec-admitting-the-design-team-is-using-ai",0,{"sections":36},[37,41,46,51,56,61,66,71,76,80,85,90,95,100],{"name":38,"slug":29,"count":39,"latest_published_at":40},"AI",7054,"2026-10-21T19:53:20.000Z",{"name":42,"slug":43,"count":44,"latest_published_at":45},"Security","security",1032,"2026-10-21T18:26:38.000Z",{"name":47,"slug":48,"count":49,"latest_published_at":50},"Policy","policy",561,"2026-10-21T19:02:49.000Z",{"name":52,"slug":53,"count":54,"latest_published_at":55},"Deals","deals",550,"2026-10-21T15:41:35.000Z",{"name":57,"slug":58,"count":59,"latest_published_at":60},"Hardware","hardware",282,"2026-10-21T15:51:59.000Z",{"name":62,"slug":63,"count":64,"latest_published_at":65},"Consumer Tech","consumer-tech",270,"2026-10-21T19:54:00.000Z",{"name":67,"slug":68,"count":69,"latest_published_at":70},"Science","science",211,"2026-10-21T09:00:00.000Z",{"name":72,"slug":73,"count":74,"latest_published_at":75},"Startups","startups",140,"2026-10-21T18:51:56.000Z",{"name":77,"slug":24,"count":78,"latest_published_at":79},"Software",136,"2026-10-21T15:00:00.000Z",{"name":81,"slug":82,"count":83,"latest_published_at":84},"Dev Tools","dev-tools",122,"2026-10-21T16:00:00.000Z",{"name":86,"slug":87,"count":88,"latest_published_at":89},"General","general",94,"2026-10-21T18:31:15.000Z",{"name":91,"slug":92,"count":93,"latest_published_at":94},"Gaming","gaming",85,"2026-10-21T18:39:52.000Z",{"name":96,"slug":97,"count":98,"latest_published_at":99},"Reviews","reviews",38,"2026-10-20T12:00:00.000Z",{"name":101,"slug":102,"count":103,"latest_published_at":104},"How-To","how-to",8,"2026-10-05T09:00:00.000Z"]
