WhatsApp Web is expanding its call trial to include group chats.
The company has opened the voice and video call feature on the desktop site to groups of up to eight people. Existing one‑to‑one calls remain, but users can now click the call icon in a group thread and invite others. The roll‑out is limited to a handful of browsers and will be refined over the next few weeks.
This matters because it narrows the functional gap between the mobile app and the web client, letting users stay productive without swapping devices. Teams that already rely on WhatsApp for quick coordination can now keep conversations in one place, cutting the need for a separate video‑conference tool.
The update still feels like a test, and it’s only on select browsers, so expect more tweaks before it becomes universal.
