Yelp said it allows only AI agents that pay for its data licensing program. Delta Air Lines is preventing agents from booking tickets, according to the reporting. The material we reviewed includes no response from Delta or from the companies that make the agents, so Delta's reasoning is unknown.\n\nThe blocks cut against the pitch. OpenAI, Meta, Google, Instinct and others say their agents can book a dinner reservation, clear out an inbox or buy a pair of shoes for you. Those are the companies' own claims, and they depend on websites treating an agent like a customer.\n\nHere is our read. Yelp's stance looks a lot like the licensing arrangements publishers have pursued with AI developers over training data: access is a product, and it has a price. Delta's case is different, because booking is a transaction rather than a data pull. Why Delta is blocking agents has not been stated, and any explanation would be guesswork.\n\nThe practical problem is fragmentation. If each site sets its own terms, an agent maker faces a separate negotiation, or a separate wall, at every door. An assistant that works on some sites and fails on others is a hard sell as something that does anything for you.\n\nThe open question is who ends up paying for access: the agent makers, the users, or no one, if sites settle on shared rules for agent traffic.","[\"ai-agents\",\"web-access\",\"yelp\",\"delta\"]","2026-10-17T13:00:00.000Z","2026-10-18T01:43:08.040Z","2026-10-18T01:43:08.212Z","published",null,[24],{"id":25,"reviewer":26,"round":27,"reason":28,"status":29},"editor-r1","editor",1,"Delete the leaked editorial note 'The source material does not say how either company detects agent traffic', and stop claiming Delta 'went on the record' since the source only says Delta is preventing agents from booking (attribute it to the report, not a Delta statement).
