Waymo announced the Premier tier on Monday. The invite‑only plan is initially limited to frequent users in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Phoenix. Members get priority pickups, 10% cash back on each trip, early access to new city rollouts and up to five free cancellations per month. The company says it will expand the program as its robotaxi fleet grows.
The tier signals Waymo’s shift toward a subscription model that mirrors what rideshares like Uber have done, but with an autonomous twist. By monetising loyalty, Waymo can smooth revenue and encourage repeat usage while testing premium service features on a small user base.
If the perks don’t outweigh the extra cost, riders may stick with the standard pay‑per‑ride model—just another experiment in the race for autonomous market share.
