Topgolf had run VMware's vSphere and ESXi for decades and adopted the VxRail hyperconverged platform in 2017, according to global infrastructure manager Scott Forehand. Forehand leads the Dallas\u002FFt. Worth VMware User Group and has been interviewed for books on how Topgolf used vSphere and Horizon, so the company's ties to VMware were not casual. Forehand said the VMware connection \"ran very deep\" before the switch.\n\nThat depth is what makes the savings notable. Plenty of companies have grumbled about Broadcom's post-acquisition pricing, but fewer have published real numbers on what leaving actually saves. Over $11 million back, for a company running more than 100 locations with real-time shot tracking and analytics, is a concrete answer to the switching-is-worth-it question a lot of IT teams are still asking.\n\nVergeOS is a fraction of VMware's size, and ripping out 12,000 VMs of institutional muscle memory is not trivial. But Broadcom keeps handing out reasons to try anyway.","[\"vmware\",\"broadcom\",\"virtualization\",\"vergeio\"]","2026-10-13T21:33:43.000Z","2026-10-13T22:35:13.505Z","2026-10-13T22:35:17.477Z","published",null,[],"software",[26,27,28,29],"vmware","broadcom","virtualization","vergeio",[31],{"name":32,"url":33},"Ars Technica","https:\u002F\u002Farstechnica.com\u002Finformation-technology\u002F2026\u002F10\u002Ftopgolf-saved-over-11-3-million-after-leaving-vmware\u002F",0,{"sections":36},[37,42,47,52,57,62,67,72,77,81,86,91,96,101],{"name":38,"slug":39,"count":40,"latest_published_at":41},"AI","ai",7012,"2026-10-14T22:53:31.000Z",{"name":43,"slug":44,"count":45,"latest_published_at":46},"Security","security",993,"2026-10-14T20:03:43.000Z",{"name":48,"slug":49,"count":50,"latest_published_at":51},"Policy","policy",524,"2026-10-14T22:03:31.000Z",{"name":53,"slug":54,"count":55,"latest_published_at":56},"Deals","deals",513,"2026-10-14T17:24:42.000Z",{"name":58,"slug":59,"count":60,"latest_published_at":61},"Hardware","hardware",256,"2026-10-14T16:03:09.000Z",{"name":63,"slug":64,"count":65,"latest_published_at":66},"Consumer Tech","consumer-tech",226,"2026-10-14T22:00:02.000Z",{"name":68,"slug":69,"count":70,"latest_published_at":71},"Science","science",201,"2026-10-13T23:13:31.000Z",{"name":73,"slug":74,"count":75,"latest_published_at":76},"Startups","startups",133,"2026-10-14T19:51:34.000Z",{"name":78,"slug":24,"count":79,"latest_published_at":80},"Software",125,"2026-10-14T22:23:48.000Z",{"name":82,"slug":83,"count":84,"latest_published_at":85},"Dev Tools","dev-tools",116,"2026-10-13T16:20:18.000Z",{"name":87,"slug":88,"count":89,"latest_published_at":90},"General","general",79,"2026-10-14T18:09:38.000Z",{"name":92,"slug":93,"count":94,"latest_published_at":95},"Gaming","gaming",74,"2026-10-14T19:40:59.000Z",{"name":97,"slug":98,"count":99,"latest_published_at":100},"Reviews","reviews",37,"2026-10-14T10:00:00.000Z",{"name":102,"slug":103,"count":104,"latest_published_at":105},"How-To","how-to",8,"2026-10-05T09:00:00.000Z"]
