Tesla's Semi truck is finally shipping in volume, nearly ten years after the company first showed it off.
Tesla began volume production of the Semi in April 2026, the company said, nearly a decade after unveiling the truck as a concept in 2017. On the evening of September 24, 2026, Tesla held another event to mark the milestone, this time at its new Semi factory next to Gigafactory Nevada. The company says the plant is rated to build 50,000 trucks a year, or roughly 1,000 a week. Tesla used the event to announce a customer roster that includes PepsiCo, US Foods, DHL, WattEV, ABF, Einride, IMC, and OK, without specifying which are new accounts and which are repeat business.
The interesting number isn't the customer logos, it's the near-decade gap between the 2017 unveiling and this month's production milestone, plus the fact that Tesla needed a dedicated factory to make the promise real. A facility rated for 50,000 trucks a year is a bigger commitment than another demo, but a customer list that mixes new and old partners is not the same thing as sustained order volume.
Tesla has staged Semi launch events before without them turning into steady deliveries, so the real test is whether trucks keep rolling off this line long after the cameras leave.
