Kouthoofd says the move is part of a reorganization he announced last fall. Teenage Engineering is also a design studio, with past collaborations including Ikea, Nothing, and Playdate. Those outside projects appear separate from the decision - it's the company's own hardware line that's ending.\n\nThe OP-1 is the product that put Teenage Engineering on the map among musicians and gear enthusiasts. Walking away from it suggests the company sees its future in design work for other brands rather than the instruments that built its name. That's an odd pivot for a company whose own catalog - OP-1, OP-XY, EP-133, TP-7 - is almost entirely music and audio gear.\n\nA design firm abandoning the one product line that made it famous raises more questions than it answers.","[\"teenage-engineering\",\"synthesizers\",\"music-gear\",\"hardware\"]","2026-10-07T21:19:54.000Z","2026-10-08T16:30:24.706Z","2026-10-08T16:30:29.448Z","published",null,[24],{"id":25,"reviewer":26,"round":27,"reason":28,"status":29},"editor-r1","editor",1,"Remove or substantiate claims not in the source material — the dek's assertion that collaborations with Ikea and Nothing 'keep growing' and the body's claims about the OP-1's 2011 launch date and collector pricing are not supported by the cited source and read as invented specifics.","resolved","hardware",[32,33,34,30],"teenage-engineering","synthesizers","music-gear",[36],{"name":37,"url":38},"The Verge","https:\u002F\u002Fwww.theverge.com\u002Fgadgets\u002F1007489\u002Fteengage-engineering-stop-making-synths",0,{"sections":41},[42,47,52,57,62,65,70,75,80,85,90,95,100,105],{"name":43,"slug":44,"count":45,"latest_published_at":46},"AI","ai",6376,"2026-10-07T18:45:00.000Z",{"name":48,"slug":49,"count":50,"latest_published_at":51},"Security","security",902,"2026-10-07T19:53:42.000Z",{"name":53,"slug":54,"count":55,"latest_published_at":56},"Policy","policy",473,"2026-10-07T18:23:21.000Z",{"name":58,"slug":59,"count":60,"latest_published_at":61},"Deals","deals",453,"2026-10-07T23:58:31.000Z",{"name":63,"slug":30,"count":64,"latest_published_at":18},"Hardware",222,{"name":66,"slug":67,"count":68,"latest_published_at":69},"Science","science",186,"2026-10-06T21:20:39.000Z",{"name":71,"slug":72,"count":73,"latest_published_at":74},"Consumer Tech","consumer-tech",173,"2026-10-07T17:41:41.000Z",{"name":76,"slug":77,"count":78,"latest_published_at":79},"Software","software",113,"2026-10-07T18:10:00.000Z",{"name":81,"slug":82,"count":83,"latest_published_at":84},"Startups","startups",112,"2026-10-07T23:36:57.000Z",{"name":86,"slug":87,"count":88,"latest_published_at":89},"Dev Tools","dev-tools",105,"2026-10-07T16:59:11.000Z",{"name":91,"slug":92,"count":93,"latest_published_at":94},"General","general",61,"2026-10-07T22:00:24.000Z",{"name":96,"slug":97,"count":98,"latest_published_at":99},"Gaming","gaming",56,"2026-10-07T12:00:00.000Z",{"name":101,"slug":102,"count":103,"latest_published_at":104},"Reviews","reviews",33,"2026-10-05T11:57:17.000Z",{"name":106,"slug":107,"count":108,"latest_published_at":109},"How-To","how-to",8,"2026-10-05T09:00:00.000Z"]
