Starlink can now be unlocked without a password.
Starlink has added support for passkeys, giving users a way to log into their accounts without typing a password. Passkeys rely on a cryptographic key stored on a device rather than a string of characters that can be phished, guessed, or leaked in a breach. The feature puts Starlink alongside the growing roster of tech companies offering passkeys as a login option alongside, or instead of, traditional passwords.
Password reuse and leaked credentials remain one of the most common ways accounts get compromised, and passkeys close off that specific attack path. For a service that controls internet access for its subscribers, a stolen password is a bigger problem than it would be for, say, a streaming app: losing access here means losing connectivity entirely.
Passkeys are a genuine security upgrade, not just a checkbox feature. The open question, as always, is whether Starlink actively pushes users toward them or leaves it as another option most people never find.
