Amazon is taking preorders for the Magic: The Gathering Star Trek Play Booster Box at $139.99 as of October 20, down from a $209.70 list price.
That is a 33% cut, or $69.71, and works out to $4.67 per pack across the box's 30 Play Boosters. It is also $25 below the $165.61 preorder price that was available earlier in October. The price tracker camelcamelcamel confirms it is the lowest Amazon has listed. Amazon sells and ships this one itself, so its preorder price guarantee applies: if the price falls again before the set arrives on November 13, you pay the lowest eligible price offered after you order.
The savings figure is the least useful number here. List prices on sealed Magic product are rarely what anyone pays, and the better yardstick is the secondary market. Unopened boxes on TCGplayer start at $137.40, against an estimated market price of $134.86. Amazon is therefore $5.13 above market, and the $2.54 gap between market and the cheapest TCGplayer listing is smaller still. In short, this is a fair price rather than a steal, and the guarantee is what makes it low-risk.
The fallback is thinner. Walmart lists the box at $139.99 through a third-party seller, Cataclysm Games, with free shipping estimated for November 20, a week after release.
Each box holds 30 packs of 14 cards, drawing on 60 years of Star Trek characters, ships and stories, according to the listing. Every pack carries at least one Traditional Foil and one to four cards of rare rarity or higher, with alternate-art and alternate-border versions possible.
The open question is whether market prices slide after launch, as they often do once a set is widely opened. The guarantee covers Amazon's own price, not the market's, so a buyer who wants the absolute floor would be betting on what TCGplayer does after November 13.
