Slate Auto has priced its no-frills electric pickup at $24,950, with preorders opening today.
The company originally targeted a sub-$20,000 price tag, but revised that promise last year after the Trump administration ended the $7,500 federal EV tax credit. The final number lands squarely in the "mid-$20,000 range" Slate flagged as its fallback. Customers can place a $300 non-refundable deposit within the next 30 days to secure a delivery slot, with production set to begin in autumn 2026 and deliveries expected in late 2026.
The pricing matters because affordable EVs remain a genuine gap in the American market — most electric trucks start well above $40,000. Slate is betting that a bare-bones, American-made truck at this price point has an audience, even without federal subsidy help.
