Every time Copilot declined a technical request, it explained why, and each explanation was a clue. Follow-up questions built on those explanations until Copilot revealed an undocumented URL parameter, \"autorun=1,\" along with the safeguards meant to keep it disabled. The researchers then built a malicious link that loaded an authenticated Copilot session and triggered an action automatically, no click required, opening a path to pull data out of connected apps like Gmail, OneDrive, and Calendar through Copilot's own URL-fetch feature.\n\nThe bug, nicknamed CoSnitch, matters less for what it broke than for how it broke. This wasn't a coding flaw picked apart line by line, it was a chatbot argued into confessing, the same interrogation trick that works on people who talk too much when they're nervous. Varonis warns the technique applies to any agentic AI with a natural-language interface, which means every company racing to bolt Copilot-style assistants onto email, files, and calendars has a new category of bug to worry about.\n\nVaronis reported CoSnitch to Microsoft in December 2025, and Microsoft patched it this week, on August 18.
