A portable SSD just got $90 cheaper, which is news right now because almost nothing storage-related is getting cheaper.
Amazon has the Sandisk 1TB Extreme Portable SSD at $209.99 for October Prime Day, down from a $299.99 list price and about $40 below its roughly $250 pre-sale price. Sandisk says the drive moves data at up to 2000 MB/s and can transfer 1,000 high-res photos in under a minute. It is built for rough handling, too, with IP65 water and dust resistance plus drop protection for falls up to 3 meters. Amazon is calling this a record low for the drive.
The timing is the real story here. A memory shortage has been pushing SSD, microSD, and hard drive prices up for months, so a genuine price cut on a 1TB SSD is the exception right now, not the rule. Shoppers who actually need storage are treating sales like this as necessities rather than splurges.
Prime Day markdowns come and go, but this one is swimming against a current that is mostly pushing storage prices in the other direction.
