Quotes for the 4nm SF4 process climbed 10% to 15% for customers in China and the U.S., with smaller 5% to 10% increases for customers in Taiwan. The 5nm SF5 node rose a similar 10% to 15%, and the 8nm node climbed close to 10%. Samsung's Pyeongtaek 4nm line has reportedly been running at full capacity since late last year, filled partly by Chinese chip designers who can't access more advanced nodes because of U.S. export controls.\n\nChinese customers are absorbing the steepest hikes because they have few alternatives, and because Samsung still can't fit all their orders in. U.S. customers get served first, and a chunk of capacity is reserved for Samsung's own memory business. It's also a sign that Samsung's chronically money-losing foundry unit might be turning a corner: one analyst told Reuters that continued price hikes could make the division profitable as early as next year.\n\nThe timing is convenient.
