Changing just three of eleven imperative instructions was enough to flip the entire Spanish-language prompt's behavior from competitive to cooperative, and the effect spilled over into blocks nobody touched.\n\nThe implication reaches past prompt engineering. Constitutional AI training, the method labs use to bake in safety rules, is typically written in blunt imperative commands. If register warps how models follow instructions at inference time, as this paper argues, the same warping plausibly happens during training, meaning a safety rule's real-world force could vary by language without anyone noticing.\n\nThat is a testable prediction, not a settled fact.
