The authors found that realistic contact physics during object handoffs (grasp, carry, place) introduced tiny force-integration noise that scrambled the hashed event logs used to verify a test ran the same way twice. Their fix, called bounded-fidelity sim-as-demo-stage, swaps in MuJoCo's mocap-body primitive for just those handoff moments, using a 220-line Python adapter, while leaving full physics everywhere else. Across 1,000 replays, the mocap version produced one identical audit hash every time; the standard contact-physics version produced 584 different hashes, with 993 of 1,000 runs diverging from each other.

That gap matters because governance benchmarks are supposed to be the trust layer for autonomous robots - the thing regulators and deployers point to as proof a system behaves predictably. If a benchmark itself produces different results from identical inputs, any audit built on it is unreliable, independent of whether the robot's actual decision-making is sound. The researchers also checked that the fix holds up: it's stable across simulation timesteps, survives timing jitter at the handoff boundary, and scales to chained multi-object handoffs without extra divergence.

The authors are careful to say this trick is for demo-stage governance testing only. Turn off contact physics for sim-to-real validation, policy training, or anything contact-rich, and you've built a robot that fails outside the simulator. It's a narrow fix for a narrow problem, but a useful reminder that reproducible and realistic are not the same goal, and benchmark designers who confuse them will certify things that were never actually tested.","["ai","robotics","simulation","benchmarks"]","2026-10-02T04:00:00.000Z","2026-10-03T01:37:51.195Z","2026-10-03T01:37:56.869Z","published",null,[],"ai",[24,26,27,28],"robotics","simulation","benchmarks",[30
arXiv cs.AI","https://arxiv.org/abs/2610.00008",0
36,39,43,47,52,56,60,65,70,75,80,85,90,95
"AI",5896
"Security","security",837
"Policy","policy",438
"Deals","deals",317,"2026-10-01T22:00:00.000Z
"Hardware","hardware",199
"Science","science",171
"Consumer Tech","consumer-tech",155,"2026-10-01T19:54:10.000Z
"Dev Tools","dev-tools",96,"2026-10-01T16:57:03.000Z
"Software","software",93,"2026-09-30T21:41:11.000Z
"Startups","startups",90,"2026-10-01T21:55:22.000Z
"Gaming","gaming",53,"2026-10-02T02:50:39.000Z
"General","general",50,"2026-09-30T21:37:54.000Z
"Reviews","reviews",31,"2026-09-28T14:31:34.000Z
"How-To","how-to",7,"2026-10-01T09:00:00.000Z"]
