Restate just raised $20 million to make sure your AI agent doesn't vanish mid-task when a server hiccups.
The Berlin-based startup closed a Series A led by Singular, with Redpoint Ventures and Capital One Ventures also participating, the company said in a statement Wednesday. Restate was founded by the team behind Apache Flink, the open-source stream-processing engine used widely in data infrastructure. It builds infrastructure designed to keep AI agents and backend software running when something breaks mid-execution.
AI agents often chain together multiple steps - calling APIs, waiting on responses, retrying failures - and a single dropped connection can leave that chain half-finished. Restate's pitch is to make those multi-step processes resumable rather than fragile, picking up where they left off instead of starting over. That's a narrower, more technical problem than most AI funding headlines, but it's one more companies will hit as they move agents from demos into production.
The new round brings Restate's total funding to $27 million since its founding.
