The team built a sequential training pipeline and analyzed forgetting and generalization from two angles, the model level and the token level. They then compared three ways of reconciling old and new skills: multi-teacher on-policy distillation, self-distilled fine-tuning, and model merging. From that comparison, they propose a new recipe combining offline replay of high-quality past training examples with a routed network of multiple LoRA experts, each specialized through reinforcement learning.\n\nMost general-purpose agents are built by stacking skills learned in separate training runs, and there is no standard playbook for doing that without one skill quietly degrading another. This paper is an attempt to write that playbook using controlled experiments instead of folklore.
