Qualcomm's next flagship chip just beat Apple's newest iPhone silicon in a benchmark test.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, Qualcomm's upcoming flagship mobile processor, outperformed Apple's A20 Pro in early benchmark testing. Neither chip has shipped inside a retail phone yet, so the results come from pre-release silicon rather than production hardware. Qualcomm has not paired the chip with a commercial device, and Apple has not confirmed final A20 Pro specifications. The test marks the first public head-to-head between the two companies' next-generation processors.
A single benchmark win doesn't rewrite the pecking order, but it does complicate Apple's usual pitch that its silicon simply outruns anything on Android. If Qualcomm's edge holds once real phones ship, it hands Android OEMs a marketing line they haven't had in years.
Early benchmarks have a habit of not surviving contact with retail hardware, so treat this as an opening bid, not a verdict.
