PS4 Horror Classic P.T. Gets an Unofficial PC Port

A coder rebuilt Kojima's canceled Silent Hills teaser in C++ and Vulkan, but you still need your own copy of the original PS4 files.

P.T., the horror teaser Konami erased from existence, now runs natively on PC.

A developer named Lorean Xavier released an open-source tool that converts a legitimate copy of P.T. into a native Windows executable. Xavier said he built it "because P.T. deserved to keep existing somewhere other than on consoles that still have it installed." The project rewrites Hideo Kojima's "playable trailer" engine in C++ and Vulkan, recreating every level, model, texture, sound, script, and cutscene from the original PS4 files. You still need your own decrypted copy of P.T. to generate a working build - the tool does not ship the game's assets. The result also adds extras the PS4 original never had: upscaling, frame generation, a free camera mode, experimental third-person and VR support, and a "museum" mode for inspecting assets, including unused content.

P.T. has survived for over a decade mostly as a rumor you needed aging hardware to actually experience - Sony pulled it from the PlayStation Store in 2015, leaving only consoles that had already downloaded it playable. PS4 emulators recently got the game running too, but this port is different: it uses real decrypted P.T. files instead of approximating the look and feel, making it the most faithful non-Sony way to play it yet.

It is also a quiet rebuke to Konami, which could have just rereleased the thing instead of letting fans do its preservation work for it.
