Poland says it has arrested two Turkish citizens accused of trying to set fire to a Starlink ground station.
Polish authorities allege the pair attempted an arson attack last month on one of Starlink's ground-based gateway facilities, the hardware that links the satellite network to the terrestrial internet. European police took both suspects into custody as part of the investigation. The arrests mark the first public resolution of last month's sabotage attempt.
Gateways are a choke point for satellite internet: disable one and you can degrade coverage across an entire region, without ever touching a customer's dish. That makes this less a story about a small fire and more a story about which piece of infrastructure someone decided was worth targeting.
Undersea cables get the headlines when someone cuts them; ground stations rarely do, even though they're just as central to keeping a satellite network online.
