Elon Musk, Palmer Luckey and Newt Gingrich will co-direct it. Their job: identify the technology the US military needs to fight future wars. The findings are due by January 28, 2027, exactly 120 days after the announcement.

That is a tight window for a question the Pentagon usually spends years chewing on. It also hands outsized influence over future weapons priorities to two tech figures and a former politician, instead of career military planners or the usual contractor-heavy advisory boards.

A four-month sprint to define how America fights its next war says less about strategic patience than about who set the deadline.","["pentagon","defense-tech","elon-musk","palmer-luckey"]","2026-09-30T20:36:54.000Z","2026-10-01T06:12:50.835Z","2026-10-01T06:12:56.239Z","published",null,[],"policy",[26,27,28,29],"pentagon","defense-tech","elon-musk","palmer-luckey",[31,34,37
The Next Web","https://thenextweb.com/news/pentagon-project-meridian-musk-luckey-gingrich
Engadget","https://www.engadget.com/2274082/elon-musk-and-palmer-luckey-will-advise-the-government-on-the-future-of-warfare/
TechCrunch","https://techcrunch.com/2026/09/30/the-pentagon-taps-elon-musk-and-palmer-luckey-to-help-decide-what-the-military-should-do-next/",0
43,48,53,57,62,67,72,77,82,86,91,96,101,106
"AI","ai",5270,"2026-10-01T04:00:00.000Z
"Security","security",801,"2026-09-30T22:18:23.000Z
"Policy",429,"2026-10-01T02:26:17.000Z
"Deals","deals",298,"2026-09-30T21:00:26.000Z
"Hardware","hardware",196,"2026-09-30T13:00:00.000Z
"Science","science",157,"2026-09-30T15:00:56.000Z
"Consumer Tech","consumer-tech",149,"2026-09-30T22:57:11.000Z
"Dev Tools","dev-tools",93,"2026-10-01T02:30:48.000Z
"Software","software","2026-09-30T21:41:11.000Z
"Startups","startups",84,"2026-09-30T20:39:09.000Z
"Gaming","gaming",51,"2026-09-30T16:24:30.000Z
"General","general",50,"2026-09-30T21:37:54.000Z
"Reviews","reviews",31,"2026-09-28T14:31:34.000Z
"How-To","how-to",6,"2026-06-16T09:00:00.000Z"]
