OpenAI agents can now live entirely inside AWS, with no data required to leave Amazon's servers.
OpenAI and Amazon launched Bedrock Managed Agents, powered by OpenAI, on Tuesday at OpenAI's DevDay 2026 event in San Francisco. The product lets companies build and run OpenAI-powered agents entirely within AWS infrastructure, so agent data never leaves Amazon's cloud. Amazon built the offering jointly with OpenAI. It's currently in limited preview, according to AWS's product page.
For enterprises that have steered clear of OpenAI's agent tools over data-residency and compliance worries, this removes the biggest objection: nothing has to touch OpenAI's own servers. It also pulls OpenAI closer to AWS at a moment when Microsoft's Azure has been treated as OpenAI's default cloud home, a shift worth watching given the cloud rivalry underneath the broader AI boom.
A limited preview is a pitch, not a product. The real test is whether AWS customers who already trust Bedrock's own house models bother routing agent workloads through someone else's instead.
