OpenAI wants ChatGPT to help teenagers pick a college, not just write their essays.
The company is adding a College Planner to ChatGPT for Teens, built to help students track and organize college applications. Alongside it come flashcards and quizzes for everyday schoolwork, plus a new teen council that OpenAI says will give young users a voice in shaping products built for them. All of it ships inside ChatGPT for Teens, the version of the chatbot aimed at that age group.
This is OpenAI moving deeper into a crowded lane. Khan Academy's Khanmigo and Google's classroom tools already pitch themselves as AI tutors and planners for students, and schools are still arguing over how much of this belongs in a backpack at all. Putting college admissions, a process that is equal parts bureaucracy and anxiety, inside a chatbot is a bet that teenagers will trust OpenAI's homework helper with one of the highest-stakes paperwork exercises of their lives.
A company asking teenagers to help design its products for teenagers is also, conveniently, recruiting its most engaged users as unpaid testers and ambassadors.
