A gym that lets members join with a few taps online, for instance, can no longer force them to call customer service or show up in person to quit. New Yorkers can now file complaints with the city if a company breaks the rule. Officials estimate the policy will save residents between $21.5 million and $162.5 million a year.\n\nNYC is the first municipality in the country to actually see a rule like this take effect, after a federal version was struck down by an appeals court on procedural grounds, not on the merits.
