Nvidia said modern games use tens of thousands of them, and the generic files must be compiled into instructions specific to your GPU and driver version. That work is CPU-heavy, and the company said it can leave players waiting up to 30 minutes every time a game launches or updates.

Advanced Shader Delivery moves that work off your PC. A Precompiled Shader Database tailored to your hardware is bundled into the download through the Xbox PC app, so the wait disappears from the first launch. Nvidia said developers cannot simply ship every possible combination themselves, because that would mean terabytes of data per game and per update.

There is early evidence of a side benefit. Journalist Sebastian Castellanos wrote on X that Gears of War: E-Day used about 7-8 GB less system RAM with the new driver, though he said CPU usage stayed relatively high. That is one person, one game, and not a controlled test.

The catch is distribution, not hardware. Microsoft worked with AMD on the same feature in May, and it carried the same restriction: only games downloaded through the Xbox app qualify. Nvidia's support puts it level with AMD, but it does not widen the pool of games. The tech works because the storefront knows exactly what is being downloaded and to which machine.

That makes the real question whether other game stores, which currently leave players compiling locally, will be offered the same arrangement.","["nvidia","gpu-drivers","pc-gaming","shaders"]","2026-10-22T14:17:48.000Z","2026-10-22T15:25:54.064Z","2026-11-08T00:17:46.048Z","published","Duplicate of "Nvidia Driver 621.01 Adds Cloud Shader Precompiling for PC Games"",[],null,"hardware",[27,28,29,30],"nvidia","gpu-drivers","pc-gaming","shaders",[32
PCGamer","https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/graphics-cards/no-more-waiting-on-shaders-to-compile-as-nvidias-latest-driver-adds-advanced-shader-delivery-users-report-lower-ram-usage-in-call-of-duty-modern-warfare-4-and-gears-of-war-e-day/",0
38,43,48,53,58,63,67,72,77,82,87,92,97,102
"AI","ai",7110,"2026-11-08T14:34:09.000Z
"Security","security",1099,"2026-11-08T15:24:01.000Z
"Deals","deals",620,"2026-11-08T08:00:00.000Z
"Policy","policy",604,"2026-11-07T15:48:26.000Z
"Consumer Tech","consumer-tech",336,"2026-11-08T21:00:00.000Z
"Hardware",316,"2026-11-08T14:36:39.000Z
"Science","science",222,"2026-11-07T16:19:17.000Z
"Software","software",154,"2026-11-08T15:42:52.000Z
"Startups","startups",150,"2026-11-06T16:50:01.000Z
"Dev Tools","dev-tools",125,"2026-11-06T22:15:59.000Z
"General","general",111,"2026-11-08T21:27:29.000Z
"Gaming","gaming",94,"2026-11-08T20:52:05.000Z
"Reviews","reviews",38,"2026-10-20T12:00:00.000Z
"How-To","how-to",8,"2026-10-05T09:00:00.000Z"]
