An AI cloud provider most people have never heard of wants $3.5 billion before it even goes public.
Nscale is in talks to raise up to $3.5 billion ahead of a US listing. The financing splits into $1.5 billion in convertible notes led by Third Point and roughly $2 billion from Nvidia. The company is telling prospective investors its total contracts now add up to about $103 billion. Most of that jump comes from a single $45 billion deal with Anthropic - one that Microsoft and Google both reportedly walked away from.
Nvidia funding the same cloud providers that buy its chips is becoming a pattern, and it blurs the line between customer and investor in a way that should make anyone reading Nscale's revenue numbers pause. The Anthropic deal is the bigger story here: two of the largest hyperscalers on earth had a shot at $45 billion in business and took a pass, leaving it to a far smaller player.
A $103 billion contract pipeline looks impressive on a pitch deck. Whether it holds up depends on how much of that is signed, committed spend versus optimistic multi-year projections - the kind of detail that tends to matter a lot more once a company actually has public shareholders.
