Nintendo will ship a Switch 2 in Europe that lets owners change the battery themselves.
Nintendo announced that a version of the Switch 2 aimed at the EU market will include a user‑replaceable battery. The change is to comply with a European rule set to take effect in February 2027 requiring easier battery replacement. The company said the design will be separate from other regions and will not affect the console’s size or performance. No pricing or release date was given.
The move gives European gamers a longer lifespan for their hardware, addressing criticism of Nintendo’s historically sealed devices. It also forces other console makers to consider similar designs to meet the same regulation.
Until the rule kicks in, most Switch 2 units will stay sealed, so the benefit is limited to the EU market for now.
