It captures human hand motion, tactile-glove data, and object motion during manipulation, then trains object-specific reinforcement-learning policies that reproduce the demonstrated motion using contacts the target robot hand can actually make. A real-time retargeter converts the human's live movements into a simulated robot-hand pose, synced with the tracked object, so the demonstrator sees where the robot would touch and can adjust their grip accordingly. Across four real-world tasks, this feedback loop raised real-robot replay success from 37.9% to 72.1%, and cut the time needed to collect each usable demonstration from 58.6 seconds to 18.2 seconds.

Robot-hand data collection has long forced a choice between cheap human demonstrations that do not transfer well to hardware, and expensive robot-only demonstrations that transfer but do not scale. Showing the human a live preview of the robot's simulated contacts closes that gap without new hardware costs, and downstream policies trained on this data improved 29.1 percentage points over a visual-only baseline.

The simulated contacts matched real robot tactile readings only 44.2% of the time, a reminder that a preview is still a preview, not the real thing.","["robotics","ai","dexterous-manipulation","teleoperation"]","2026-09-23T04:00:00.000Z","2026-09-23T10:16:46.282Z","2026-09-23T10:16:51.377Z","published",null,[24
"editor-r1","editor",1,"The headline (and to a lesser extent the framing) inverts the actual mechanism — it's human demonstrators who watch a real-time overlay of the robot's simulated grip while they move their own hand, not robots watching or learning from their own hands autonomously; rewrite the headline/dek to make clear a human is doing the demonstrating and observing the robot's simulated contact feedback.","resolved","ai",[32,30,33,34],"robotics","dexterous-manipulation","teleoperation",[36
arXiv cs.AI","https://arxiv.org/abs/2609.24660",0
42,45,49,53,58,62,67,72,77,82,87,92,97,102
"AI",4344
"Security","security",713
"Policy","policy",370
"Deals","deals",206,"2026-09-23T09:43:46.000Z
"Hardware","hardware",169
"Science","science",134,"2026-09-23T09:00:00.000Z
"Consumer Tech","consumer-tech",110,"2026-09-22T20:00:00.000Z
"Software","software",81,"2026-09-23T09:56:13.000Z
"Dev Tools","dev-tools",79,"2026-09-22T22:21:13.000Z
"Startups","startups",65,"2026-09-22T22:06:48.000Z
"Gaming","gaming",45,"2026-09-22T15:35:06.000Z
"General","general",43,"2026-09-21T23:48:56.000Z
"Reviews","reviews",27,"2026-09-22T13:00:00.000Z
"How-To","how-to",6,"2026-06-16T09:00:00.000Z"]
