The dataset splits into 230 clips with reviewed paired edits for training and 157 held back for evaluation. Its scoring system checks three things across 13 separate metrics: does the new text stay correct frame to frame, does the video still look and move naturally, and does the edit stay contained to the text region instead of smearing into the background. The team also tested eight existing editing systems from four different approaches and found none nailed all three at once.\n\nThat last point is the real finding. Image-based text editing is already decent, but video adds motion, camera shake, and dozens of frames where a word can start legible and end as mush. Without a shared yardstick, claims about seamless video text editing were basically unverifiable. This benchmark gives reviewers, and competitors, something concrete to measure against.\n\nThe researchers also shipped their own open-source reference editor, ViTeX-Edit-14B, which scored best among video-native editors on text accuracy (CharAcc 0.688) and distortion. Read plainly: even the best entry gets the text right about two-thirds of the time.
