To answer correctly, a model has to find and use a specific piece of evidence from earlier in the thread, not just recall a fact about the user. The team ran the test through 128k-token contexts, plus a 400-question version at 1M tokens, and tested it against both retrieval-augmented systems and long-context models. They also built their own fix: TSIM, which chops the conversation into distinct episodes and indexes them in a multi-layered memory system instead of just stuffing more tokens into the context window.\n\nThis matters because most memory benchmarks test a strawman: a chatbot that already knows which chunk of conversation holds the answer. Real usage is messier. People bounce between topics in one thread, and a model has to figure out, unprompted, which earlier exchange actually justifies its next answer. SCALE-QA targets that gap directly, and the result is that long-context window size alone does not solve memory - structure does.\n\nTSIM beat the best baseline by 5.6 to 17.6 accuracy points across three different LLM backends, which is a meaningful gap for anyone building assistants meant to hold a conversation for more than a few turns. It is also a quiet rebuttal to the industry's favorite flex of the past two years: bigger context windows. A 1M-token window is not memory if the model cannot tell which million tokens matter.","[\"ai\",\"benchmarks\",\"llm-memory\",\"conversational-ai\"]","2026-10-01T04:00:00.000Z","2026-10-02T09:44:34.213Z","2026-10-02T09:44:39.102Z","published",null,[],"ai",[24,26,27,28],"benchmarks","llm-memory","conversational-ai",[30],{"name":31,"url":32},"arXiv cs.AI","https:\u002F\u002Farxiv.org\u002Fabs\u002F2608.25655",0,{"sections":35},[36,40,45,49,54,59,63,68,73,77,81,86,91,96],{"name":37,"slug":24,"count":38,"latest_published_at":39},"AI",5694,"2026-10-01T12:05:27.000Z",{"name":41,"slug":42,"count":43,"latest_published_at":44},"Security","security",821,"2026-10-01T14:00:00.000Z",{"name":46,"slug":47,"count":48,"latest_published_at":44},"Policy","policy",432,{"name":50,"slug":51,"count":52,"latest_published_at":53},"Deals","deals",311,"2026-10-01T14:19:00.000Z",{"name":55,"slug":56,"count":57,"latest_published_at":58},"Hardware","hardware",197,"2026-10-01T11:37:06.000Z",{"name":60,"slug":61,"count":62,"latest_published_at":18},"Science","science",165,{"name":64,"slug":65,"count":66,"latest_published_at":67},"Consumer Tech","consumer-tech",150,"2026-10-01T11:59:27.000Z",{"name":69,"slug":70,"count":71,"latest_published_at":72},"Dev Tools","dev-tools",93,"2026-10-01T02:30:48.000Z",{"name":74,"slug":75,"count":71,"latest_published_at":76},"Software","software","2026-09-30T21:41:11.000Z",{"name":78,"slug":79,"count":80,"latest_published_at":44},"Startups","startups",86,{"name":82,"slug":83,"count":84,"latest_published_at":85},"Gaming","gaming",51,"2026-09-30T16:24:30.000Z",{"name":87,"slug":88,"count":89,"latest_published_at":90},"General","general",50,"2026-09-30T21:37:54.000Z",{"name":92,"slug":93,"count":94,"latest_published_at":95},"Reviews","reviews",31,"2026-09-28T14:31:34.000Z",{"name":97,"slug":98,"count":99,"latest_published_at":100},"How-To","how-to",7,"2026-10-01T09:00:00.000Z"]
