Intel gained 8.9% and Airbnb 11.7%.\n\nThe trigger was political, not a bad earnings report or a product miss. Democrats won broadly in the November 3 midterms, and many of their candidates ran AI-critical campaigns. Many tech leaders, Elon Musk among them, have backed President Donald Trump and the Republican Party in recent years, which feeds the fear of blowback. On November 4, Senator Bernie Sanders called for a national data center moratorium.\n\nA call for a moratorium is not a law, and nothing in Friday's trading says one is coming. Markets price odds, not outcomes, and a one-day swing of this size mostly shows how uncertain those odds are. The shape of the rebound is worth noting. Airbnb, which is not an AI company the way Nvidia is, bounced harder than the AI-heavy names, which suggests Thursday's selling hit tech broadly and not only the businesses with the most AI exposure.\n\nThat leaves an open question about Friday's buyers. Some may be betting the policy threat is overblown. Others may simply think Thursday overshot.
