Elon Musk is renaming SpaceXAI, the AI-focused subsidiary of SpaceX, to SpaceXSI.
Musk confirmed the change on X this past Sunday, writing "No more AI. SI. It's better." When a follower asked if SpaceXAI would become SpaceXSI, Musk replied "Yes, we will make that change." The swap tracks President Trump's September 29 executive order, which replaces "artificial intelligence" with "super intelligence" in official government language. Trump had floated other options first, including "extreme intelligence" and "superior intelligence," before landing on the current term.
The rebrand changes nothing about what SpaceXAI actually builds - it's a label swap, not a technical pivot. What's notable is how quickly Musk's branding fell in line with a term invented by an executive order, replacing a word coined by computer scientist John McCarthy in 1955 and used in research and software for seven decades.
Given that people still call X "Twitter" years after that rename, don't expect SpaceXSI to stick any faster.
