Musk Had Grok Shop For Lego Star Wars Sets

Elon Musk let his AI agent Grok order him $241 worth of Lego Star Wars kits, testing the credit-card-in-chat shopping feature he's pushing on X.

Elon Musk used his own AI chatbot to buy himself Lego.

Musk asked Grok to research the most fun Lego Star Wars kits for young kids and place an order. The AI agent found five Star Wars sets, including Smart Play items, totaling $241.34, and ordered them through Lego's website with free shipping. Musk says the boxes shipped via UPS to a house in Austin, then had Grok switch off shipping and tracking once the order was confirmed. He posted screenshots of the chat exchange, not photos of the actual Legos arriving.

The stunt doubles as an ad for Grok's shopping feature, which Musk has told other X users to activate by typing their credit card number straight into the chat - advice that contradicts xAI's own warning against putting personal information in prompts. For a billionaire with effectively unlimited disposable income, handing an AI agent his card details costs him nothing. For everyone else, it's a live test of how much financial trust people will extend to a model with no public track record on fraud or data handling.

The purchase here was plastic bricks. If the feature catches on with people who aren't billionaires, the stakes attached to it won't stay that small.
