Apple announced the Duo on September 9, and MLB has been building since. The app works on the 5.4-inch cover screen, but the pitch is the 7.6-inch inner display, which has a Nano-texture finish (a matte, etched coating). Fold the phone like a small laptop and the livestream sits on top while box scores update below. Either screen can run video full-screen, or split it with another app such as X, Threads, a group chat or Apple's Sports app.

MLB is also using AI to generate extra detail about each play, player and game situation, which Sean Curtis, the league's chief technology officer, described as context layered over live video. Kenny Gersh, an MLB executive vice president, said the appeal is simple: the phone stays in a pocket, then opens into a much larger screen. Those are the league's own descriptions, and MLB has not yet shown how fans use the layout.

The design logic is sound for baseball. The sport has long gaps between pitches, and a stats panel fills them without covering the picture. A split view is also a familiar tablet trick, so the test is whether a foldable makes it feel natural on a device that fits in a pocket.

MLB has done this before. Its app was among the first 500 on the original iPhone, and its iPad app was ready on launch day and appeared in that keynote. Gersh also recalled working with Apple on HTTP Live Streaming, the video delivery technology, including ad insertion. The league has since worked with Apple on spatial broadcasts for Vision Pro and iPhone-shot footage for Apple TV baseball coverage.

Curtis hinted at more features he cannot discuss yet, aimed at keeping fans in the app without pulling them away from a live game. The World Series is the first test, and the off-season is the window to rework the design before next year's Opening Day.","["apple","iphone-duo","mlb","foldables"]","2026-10-23T23:00:00.000Z","2026-10-24T00:04:14.447Z","2026-10-24T00:04:14.615Z","published",null,[],"consumer-tech",[26,27,28,29],"apple","iphone-duo","mlb","foldables",[31
TechRadar","https://www.techradar.com/phones/iphone/mlb-is-making-the-most-of-iphone-duos-foldable-screen-just-in-time-for-the-world-series",0
37,42,47,52,57,61,66,71,76,81,86,91,96,101
"AI","ai",7076,"2026-10-23T21:11:07.000Z
"Security","security",1064,"2026-10-23T23:25:00.000Z
"Policy","policy",582,"2026-10-23T20:28:43.000Z
"Deals","deals",569,"2026-10-23T14:43:38.000Z
"Consumer Tech",296,"2026-10-24T04:51:16.000Z
"Hardware","hardware",294,"2026-10-23T20:00:00.000Z
"Science","science",218,"2026-10-23T22:48:25.000Z
"Startups","startups",148,"2026-10-23T16:26:29.000Z
"Software","software",143,"2026-10-23T19:28:10.000Z
"Dev Tools","dev-tools",122,"2026-10-21T16:00:00.000Z
"General","general",101,"2026-10-23T18:46:30.000Z
"Gaming","gaming",88,"2026-10-22T22:25:33.000Z
"Reviews","reviews",38,"2026-10-20T12:00:00.000Z
"How-To","how-to",8,"2026-10-05T09:00:00.000Z"]
