Microsoft is putting $10 billion into Gulf data centers through 2030, though most of that money was already promised.
The company confirmed spending across Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates through 2030, totaling $10 billion. Of that figure, roughly $2 billion is genuinely new commitment. The remaining $8 billion was pledged to the UAE last year and is simply being folded into this broader regional total. Microsoft did not break out how the new money splits across the four countries.
The timing matters more than the number. European regulators are moving to wall off sensitive public sector data from American cloud providers, making Gulf governments a comparatively easier customer for Microsoft's infrastructure ambitions right now. Bundling old and new pledges into one round figure also shows how cloud giants like to present their regional bets as bigger news than they are.
Call it a rebrand with a modest top-up, not a new wave of Gulf investment.
