Meta and Ray-Ban's third-generation smart glasses are here, and the upgrade is modest.
A new review of the Gen 3 glasses reports slightly better battery life and improved microphones over the previous model. The cameras are still there, too. The review's own headline sums up the verdict bluntly: not much new. That's a notable take for a product line Meta has pitched as the future of how we'll wear computers.
That matters because smart glasses are supposed to be Meta's answer to the smartphone, and nobody wins that fight with marginally longer battery life. Incremental refreshes like this are common in young hardware categories, where small updates buy time between bigger redesigns. The real question is whether buyers will wait for that bigger leap or lose interest first.
A better microphone is nice, but it's not the reason anyone buys smart glasses.
