Meta is working on encryption for the AI conversations you'll eventually have with its smart glasses.
The company is building a feature called Private Processing, designed to ensure that only the wearer has access to what they say to the AI. Meta's pitch is straightforward: it expects people to talk to AI through smart glasses daily, so those conversations need the same protection as any other sensitive data. The feature is still in development, not yet shipped to users.
This matters because smart glasses are a uniquely exposed listening device. Unlike a phone you can put down, glasses are worn, always pointed at whatever you're looking at, and increasingly wired to always-on AI. Building privacy in before the always-on use case scales is a different posture than bolting it on after a breach.
Whether Private Processing amounts to real end-to-end protection or just marketing language for standard server-side encryption remains to be seen until Meta details the architecture.
