Kevin Mandia has a new startup, and it just raised more money than most companies see in a decade.
Armadin, founded by Mandia, has closed a $255.5 million funding round at a $2.5 billion valuation. Mandia is best known as the founder of Mandiant. His new company centers on what it calls agent swarms: groups of AI agents built to test enterprise systems for weaknesses and help defend them. The source of the funding, the investors involved, and how the money will be spent have not been disclosed.
A $2.5 billion price tag for a brand new company is a bet on Mandia himself as much as on the technology. It also shows how central agentic AI has become to the security pitch, where testing and defense are increasingly marketed as a single automated loop rather than separate products.
Security vendors have promised autonomous protection before. Whether 'agent swarm' turns out to be a real architecture or just a new name for automated scanning is the question worth asking before the next round closes.
