Safari gets a touch sentinel recognizer, Photos gets something called PXGTouchDwellGestureRecognizer, Notes gets ICTouchPressGestureRecognizer, and Quick Look picks up a dragTouch feature. This builds on touch-friendly tweaks Apple already shipped in Golden Gate's launch version, like pull-to-refresh gestures in Safari, Mail, and Calendar, plus full touch input for Sidecar, which lets an iPad act as a second Mac display. None of this is definitive proof of new hardware, since Apple could simply be deepening Sidecar's touch support.\n\nBut the timing lines up with persistent rumors of a touchscreen MacBook, possibly branded the MacBook Ultra, landing as soon as late 2026. Rumors point to an OLED display, a thinner and lighter chassis, a Dynamic Island cutout, and M5 Pro or M5 Max chips. If true, it would mark Apple's first touch-enabled MacBook after more than a decade of insisting that touchscreens and traditional laptops don't mix.\n\nCode changes are not a keynote. Apple has shipped speculative or unused frameworks before, and a Sidecar upgrade alone would require exactly this kind of groundwork without any new laptop attached. Worth watching, not worth betting on yet.","[\"macos\",\"macbook\",\"apple\",\"touchscreen\"]","2026-10-05T21:14:08.000Z","2026-10-06T10:58:45.886Z","2026-10-06T10:58:52.091Z","published",null,[],"hardware",[26,27,28,29],"macos","macbook","apple","touchscreen",[31],{"name":32,"url":33},"MacRumors","https:\u002F\u002Fwww.macrumors.com\u002F2026\u002F10\u002F05\u002Fmacos-27-2-touch-gestures\u002F",0,{"sections":36},[37,42,47,52,57,60,65,70,75,80,85,90,95,100],{"name":38,"slug":39,"count":40,"latest_published_at":41},"AI","ai",6347,"2026-10-06T07:49:07.000Z",{"name":43,"slug":44,"count":45,"latest_published_at":46},"Security","security",879,"2026-10-06T00:00:38.000Z",{"name":48,"slug":49,"count":50,"latest_published_at":51},"Policy","policy",463,"2026-10-05T23:16:24.000Z",{"name":53,"slug":54,"count":55,"latest_published_at":56},"Deals","deals",373,"2026-10-06T08:09:42.000Z",{"name":58,"slug":24,"count":59,"latest_published_at":18},"Hardware",211,{"name":61,"slug":62,"count":63,"latest_published_at":64},"Science","science",182,"2026-10-05T18:58:12.000Z",{"name":66,"slug":67,"count":68,"latest_published_at":69},"Consumer Tech","consumer-tech",162,"2026-10-06T09:00:14.000Z",{"name":71,"slug":72,"count":73,"latest_published_at":74},"Software","software",103,"2026-10-05T18:23:19.000Z",{"name":76,"slug":77,"count":78,"latest_published_at":79},"Dev Tools","dev-tools",99,"2026-10-05T10:47:06.000Z",{"name":81,"slug":82,"count":83,"latest_published_at":84},"Startups","startups",96,"2026-10-05T20:24:09.000Z",{"name":86,"slug":87,"count":88,"latest_published_at":89},"Gaming","gaming",54,"2026-10-05T19:07:04.000Z",{"name":91,"slug":92,"count":93,"latest_published_at":94},"General","general",53,"2026-10-05T22:05:42.000Z",{"name":96,"slug":97,"count":98,"latest_published_at":99},"Reviews","reviews",33,"2026-10-05T11:57:17.000Z",{"name":101,"slug":102,"count":103,"latest_published_at":104},"How-To","how-to",8,"2026-10-05T09:00:00.000Z"]
