A federal judge has permanently ended xAI's lawsuit claiming OpenAI stole trade secrets tied to the Grok chatbot.
US District Judge Rita Lin dismissed the case with prejudice on Monday, closing the door on any attempt to revive the same claims. The suit accused OpenAI of inducing a former xAI senior engineer, Xuechen Li, to divulge confidential information. Lin ruled that xAI failed to make that case: it never showed OpenAI actually induced Li to share anything protected.
Dismissal with prejudice is a hard stop. xAI cannot file the same claims again in federal court. The lawsuit was one of several legal fronts between Musk-affiliated ventures and OpenAI, a company Musk co-founded before departing and later became publicly hostile toward.
Heavy accusations, thin evidence. And now a permanent record of nothing proved.
