Inmo's Air3 smart glasses have a habit of overheating on one side, and now more than 1,600 of them are being recalled.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission says the Air3's left temple can overheat during extended use, creating a burn hazard the agency warns could cause serious injury or death. Ten people have reported a burning sensation on their face and the left side of their ear while wearing the glasses. The recall covers units sold in the US and Canada between December 2025 and August 2026, priced from around $900, through Inmo's own site, Amazon, and a Kickstarter campaign. Inmo makes several smart glasses models, but this recall is specific to the Air3.
Face-mounted hardware sits closer to skin than a phone or laptop ever does, so a thermal design flaw here is a safety issue, not just an inconvenience. It's also a reminder that smart glasses remain an early-stage product category, often shipped in small batches through crowdfunding and direct sales, without the safety scrutiny that mass-market phone makers face.
Ten burn reports out of 1,600 units is roughly a one-in-160 failure rate for something worn against your face. That's not exactly a vote of confidence in whatever Inmo ships next.
