Coogler, best known for Black Panther and this year's Sinners, is attached to the project. The show keeps the X-Files name and format but swaps out the original leads: two new FBI agents anchor the series, and neither is named Mulder or Scully. Hulu has not released casting, plot details, or a premiere date.\n\nThat's a bigger swing than it looks. The 2016 and 2018 X-Files revivals worked specifically because they brought back David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson - the nostalgia was the pitch. Dropping the original agents entirely means Hulu is betting the brand and its case-of-the-week format can carry a show without the faces fans associate with it. It's also a vote of confidence in Coogler, a theatrical director, as streamers keep recruiting film talent to anchor prestige series.\n\nA full-series order is a statement of confidence, not a guarantee of quality. \"X-Files, but new agents\" is exactly the kind of pitch that reads better in a press release than it plays on screen.","[\"ryan coogler\",\"x-files\",\"hulu\",\"streaming tv\"]","2026-10-13T18:10:08.000Z","2026-10-13T18:44:56.705Z","2026-10-13T18:45:01.789Z","published",null,[],"general",[26,27,28,29],"ryan coogler","x-files","hulu","streaming tv",[31],{"name":32,"url":33},"Engadget","https:\u002F\u002Fwww.engadget.com\u002F2285678\u002Fryan-cooglers-x-files-reboot-gets-a-full-series-order-from-hulu\u002F",0,{"sections":36},[37,42,47,52,57,62,67,72,77,82,87,90,95,100],{"name":38,"slug":39,"count":40,"latest_published_at":41},"AI","ai",6989,"2026-10-13T20:09:54.000Z",{"name":43,"slug":44,"count":45,"latest_published_at":46},"Security","security",971,"2026-10-13T18:57:01.000Z",{"name":48,"slug":49,"count":50,"latest_published_at":51},"Policy","policy",502,"2026-10-13T19:35:29.000Z",{"name":53,"slug":54,"count":55,"latest_published_at":56},"Deals","deals",500,"2026-10-13T18:33:14.000Z",{"name":58,"slug":59,"count":60,"latest_published_at":61},"Hardware","hardware",250,"2026-10-13T19:34:34.000Z",{"name":63,"slug":64,"count":65,"latest_published_at":66},"Consumer Tech","consumer-tech",211,"2026-10-13T20:01:54.000Z",{"name":68,"slug":69,"count":70,"latest_published_at":71},"Science","science",200,"2026-10-13T19:17:42.000Z",{"name":73,"slug":74,"count":75,"latest_published_at":76},"Startups","startups",131,"2026-10-13T20:13:53.000Z",{"name":78,"slug":79,"count":80,"latest_published_at":81},"Software","software",122,"2026-10-13T18:25:37.000Z",{"name":83,"slug":84,"count":85,"latest_published_at":86},"Dev Tools","dev-tools",116,"2026-10-13T16:20:18.000Z",{"name":88,"slug":24,"count":89,"latest_published_at":18},"General",75,{"name":91,"slug":92,"count":93,"latest_published_at":94},"Gaming","gaming",65,"2026-10-13T19:00:48.000Z",{"name":96,"slug":97,"count":98,"latest_published_at":99},"Reviews","reviews",36,"2026-10-13T18:00:00.000Z",{"name":101,"slug":102,"count":103,"latest_published_at":104},"How-To","how-to",8,"2026-10-05T09:00:00.000Z"]
