GTA 6 preloading starts November 10, and the game will need up to 212GB of free space on your console.
The game launches November 19. Customers who preorder it digitally on Xbox or PlayStation can start downloading it nine days earlier. A preload simply means the install happens before release day, so the game is ready when it goes live instead of after a long wait.
The 212GB figure is the ceiling, and it is the number to plan around. For scale, that is roughly a quarter of the 825GB drive in the original PlayStation 5. On a 512GB Xbox Series S, it is more than 40 percent of the total capacity, before counting the system software and whatever else is already installed. Many players will have to delete something to fit it.
That makes the November 10 date more useful than it first sounds. Clearing space is a chore best done days ahead, not on launch night with a progress bar standing between you and the game. Anyone whose console is nearly full should treat the preload window as the deadline for deciding which games stay.
It also shows how far install sizes have grown. A single title that claims a quarter or more of a standard console drive puts external storage in the same conversation as the game itself. For a release this large, the preload window is where the launch will be won or lost for people with small drives.
