GoPro's smallest action camera just got $90 cheaper, at least for a couple of days.
During Amazon's October Prime Day event on October 6 and 7, the GoPro Lit Hero dropped to $179.95 from its $270 list price, the lowest price tracked since launch. The 3.3-ounce camera shoots 4K video at 60fps, takes 12-megapixel photos, and is waterproof to 16 feet without a separate housing. A built-in LED light adds some utility underwater, and the battery runs about 90 minutes of continuous shooting, though it's sealed and can't be swapped mid-day. Nearly everything is controlled through a 1.76-inch touchscreen, since the camera has almost no physical buttons.
GoPro has spent years chasing professional-grade footage with its Hero Black line; the Lit Hero is a bet that most buyers just want something small, waterproof, and simple to point at a bike trail or a beach. That means skipping built-in image stabilization (you fix shaky footage later in the Quik app) and living with a small 1/2.8-inch sensor that gets noisy once the light fades. It's a reasonable trade for casual users, less so for anyone who wants to edit or color-grade footage, since there's no log mode or manual control.
Worth noting: this was a two-day Prime Day price, and with the event over as of October 7, there's no guarantee $179.95 still holds - check the current price before assuming the discount survived.
