Google is quietly testing an AI reply tool in its Messages app.
The feature, dubbed “tap to draft,” lets users tap a suggested reply and receive a longer, context‑aware draft generated by Google’s internal model. The draft appears within the conversation thread, where the user can edit before sending. Google has not disclosed a launch date, the Android version required, or how many participants are in the pilot.
If the test proves smooth, the tool could speed up texting for users who rely on predictive replies but need more than a single word. It also shows Google pushing AI deeper into core mobile experiences, a space traditionally dominated by third‑party keyboards.
For now, the rollout is limited to an unnamed test group, and the company has offered no timeline for a wider release. Stay tuned for updates once concrete numbers emerge.
