Bloomberg reported Friday that executives at the Abu Dhabi AI company have held exploratory talks about selling a majority stake to US firms, citing people familiar with the matter who asked not to be named. The goal, according to the report, is locking in access to advanced chips beyond next year. It's the latest move in a pattern. G42 already dropped its Huawei ties and let Washington inspect its data centers, and selling majority control to American owners would be the furthest step yet in that direction.
Advanced AI chips are becoming foreign policy leverage, and G42 is treating US ownership as the price of admission. For a company that built its reputation as the Gulf's flagship AI player, ceding control to American investors is a steep trade-off, but apparently a smaller one than losing chip access altogether.
